Super Bowl Party

The Super Bowl party is this Sunday, February 4th. Meet at the church at 4:15 or at the Scott's house at 4:45. There will be literally TONS of food. Girls need to bring a snack (of any variety-sweet or salty) and guys need to bring a soda TO SHARE. We will head back to the church after the game. We will just call parents when the game is over. Come to root on the Indianapolis Colts or Da Bears. See you all there!

30 Hour Famine

The all-famous 30 Hour Famine is coming up Friday, February 23rd through Saturday the 24th. No eating is allowed after 6:00 AM on Friday and eating resumes at noon on Saturday. We will meet at church at 6:00 PM for the lock-in part. There will be lots of fun games and sorry, but no food, but there will be lots of juice. I know everyone is thinking why in the world would you want to stop eating for 30 hours? In all seriousness, this is a great experience. It is totally worth the hunger to raise money for those little kids that really need the food. There will also be a worship service and videos to watch of the kids we are feeding. Get a packet from one of the leaders soon so you can start raising money. Our goal for the last two years has been $3600 which is feeding ten kids for a year. We have yet to reach that amount, and we are hoping that this year is the year. Really guys, this is a great opportunity, and if I can do it, anyone can! See everyone at youth!

Road Trip... LATER!

Well, winter weather has struck again! We will NOT be doing anything youth-related tomorrow (Saturday, January 13th). With all of the ice on the road we will have to postpone the road trip. Check back on the blog and we will try to reschedule our trip to Kansas City. So, stay inside, home, safe, and warm this weekend, and we will let you know when new plans are made!

ROAD TRIP!!!!

Well, it's time for the annual road trip! We're mixing things up a bit and going to Crown Center in Kansas City. It's January 13th. We will be loading onto the bus and leaving from the church at 7:00 AM (I know it's kind of early, but we want to do as much as we can!). We will stop somewhere to eat breakfast on the way. We should be back somewhere between 10:00 and 11:00 PM, but we will call parents as we approach church. Some things at Crown Center: Ice Skating ($6 to skate and another $2 to rent the skates), movie theaters, there's even a spa if you need some relaxation time!, plenty of restaurants to eat at, and lots of shops (some things you would never see anywhere else-like the Crayola store!). The website of the mall is www.crowncenter.com if you want to check out what's there! After we leave the mall, we will head to Pizza Street for dinner! Lots of you remember Pizza Street from the trips to school mission trips to KC, so come and join us! Hope you all can make it!

And a little side note, anyone who wants to go to lunch with Josh this Wednesday (the 10th) can meet at Gus' after the 5th hour final is over (12:30).

Here's a picture of the fountain at Crown Center!

And this is the ice skating rink! Hope to see you all there!

Christmas Party

Tuesday night was the youth Christmas party at the Scott's house. I think we all had a great time! There were some great games and awesome food. There were also some great, creative gifts!

This is the Christmas Carol gurgling game. It was quite an entertaining game; not just to participate in, but also to watch everyone else.

Here's Nate and Greg checking out the treadmill.

Here are the guys playing some foosball, one of the many attractions at the Scott's house. Thanks to everyone that came! It's always a big hit every year. Don't forget to comment with ideas for the January road trip. We need lots of good ideas so we can decide where we want to go! Thanks for checking back! A January events posting will come soon. Don't forget the New Year's Eve bash coming up!

Kansas City School Trip

Thanks to everyone that went on the trip to Kansas City! We had an awesome time and it is always a great opportunity to help others in need. There were lots of youth this year and we even got to have the bus to ourselves! Thanks to you all and those of you who did not go, you definitely missed out!

Here's the pile of stuff we brought with us! There were lots of coats for these kids that really needed them. Thanks to everyone who donated something!

Some of the parents brought a pinata for the kids to whack! I have never heard so much screaming from those kids. And it ultimately led to a dog pile of elementary school kids, as seen in the picture below.

Here's a shot of the whole group! One of the largest so far and definitely the largest number of youth that have gone! Thanks again for everyone's help!

Bring a Rake or a Shovel... LATER

Ok, well, we have been on the phone all morning getting road updates, and it looks like it is not going to be safe for us to be out and driving all afternoon. We will see what the roads are like tomorrow, and may go out after church and shovel some sidewalks and driveways. We know there is definitely a need, but we have to stay safe. If you make it to church tomorrow, bring a shovel just in case.

Bring a rake OR bring a shovel!

Oh, the weather outside is frightful...

Hey Gang,

I know what you are all thinking...."Are we having Service Day on Saturday?"

Well, the answer is....YES!!

Whether the ground is covered in snow or in leaves, we will have work to do. Regardless of the weather, we will meet at the church at 1 o'clock. Dress warm and we will shovel the walks of several members of our church that may not be able to get out and do it on their own.

When it's all over we will head out for pizza and may even wrap up the night with a snowball fight at the church!

So bring a shovel and be ready to have a good time!

In Christ,
Josh, the youth dude

December Events

Can you believe it's already December? Time for Christmas!! Yeah!

Saturday, December 2nd: Youth Service Day. Meet at church at 1:00 and bring money for pizza afterwards. Bring rakes and/or gloves if you have them. This really is a lot of fun and also a great opportunity to help people in need. That's this Saturday!!

Wednesday, December 13th: We will be going to St. Francis House to sing with the residents there. We take food and it's just another great time to spread the Christmas cheer. We will go there instead of having bible studies at church. We are also asking for donations of warm clothes, travel shampoos, etc. See James if you have any questions.

Friday, December 15th: We will be heading to Kansas City for the Christmas party we have up there. We go to an inner-city elementary school and do things with them. They love it when we come and as most of you know, it's a great time for us too. You will need your parent's permission for this trip.

Tuesday, December 19th: The Youth Christmas Party. We will be heading to the Scott's house to celebrate Christmas with just the youth! Bring a $10 gift for the gift exchange. More details to follow as it gets closer.

Wednesday, December 20th: Candle and Carols. Get into the Christmas spirit with a night of great Christmas music. See Josh or Bobbie if you would like to perform something!

That does it for December. Keep checking back for additional information. Just so you know, there will be a youth New Year's Eve party at church. Check back for details on that and upcoming events. Also, scroll down to see the Question of the Month. We are trying to decide where to go on the January road trip. We could really use some suggestions!! This year, the youth get a say in where we go! So comment or see Josh or Liz at youth with your ideas! Also, the items for our VAC family are due back to the church by Wednesday, December 6th!

QUESTION OF THE MONTH!!!

HEY GANG!!

I have a very special question for you that we are going to keep up the whole month!

Every January our youth group goes on a ROAD TRIP. We want you guys to give us some ideas as to where to go! We are looking for a place that does not cost very much money and is within about 3 to 4 hours from the church. We will gather up all your ideas and pick one to be our destination for:

November/Early December Events

Yes, I know, it is November 16th and I'm just now posting November events. So sorry!

Sunday, November 18th: The church is having the Thanksgiving dinner after morning worship. Lots of good food! Also, there will not be youth group that night!

Saturday, December 2nd: Youth Service Day, meet at the church at 1:00 to go help some people in our church. We will be raking leaves, cleaning gutters, and other assorted things. Afterwards, we will go grab some food, so bring money. I know it probably doesn't sound like that much fun, but it really is a good time. You get to hang with your friends from youth and help some people out at the same time! So definitely come!

Also, in the month of December, the youth group has decided to take care of the household needs for one of the Voluntary Action Center families the church has adopted. You can either pick something off the list or just bring money to Josh or Liz. Let one of them know if you are going to buy something off the list so we don't duplicate things. Bring the stuff or money to church no later than December 6th. Here's what we need to get for them:
Queen sized blankets
Queen sized comforters
Silverware
Bath towels
Body & Bath products
Kitchen towels
Griddle pan
Throw rugs
Curtains for a long, wide window

Thanks guys! Check back later in the month for December events! I can't believe it's almost Christmas!!

QUESTION OF THE WEEK!!!

Sorry for the delay. Don't forget to leave your comments below and don't hesitate to comment on other people's responses. We love hearing from you guys!

If you could travel through time, when and where would be the first place you would go and why?

QUESTION OF THE WEEK!!!

Hey Gang,

Here is this week's question! Post your answers using the comments icon below!

If you won the lottery, what would be the first thing you would buy?

Was that actually comfortable?

By the time we all collapsed, it was LATE. People just slept where they fell. It was quite interesting where you found people. When I woke up, I walked around looking for people to take pictures of! It was an awesome lock-in and I think we wore Josh out. It took him at least a week to fully recover, if he ever did. The best part about the lock-in was that we got to stay up until we literally fell down with exhaustion. Props to the youth for raising money for this lock-in!!

Josh fell asleep on his hand at around 5:00. He was "supervising". But he did wake up when I took the picture of him.

Brandon, who was going to "pull an all-nighter" but who I found sleeping like this when I woke up. He was the last to bed and he only got about half an hour of sleep before we woke him up!

The girls, who fell asleep either on or underneath the table in the XBOX room. They finally got to sleep when the boys turned the video games off, which were still going at 5:30.

Apparently on top of a table was the most popular place to sleep. Here's Patrick sleeping on the table in Josh's Sunday School room.

Little Debbie Relay

The next game was the Little Debbie Relay. Everyone had to eat a Little Debbie out of a grocery sack until your team's were all gone. There were Oatmeal Creme Pies, Nutty Bars, Honey Buns, and HoHos. I think it was my favorite game of the night, but I did feel sorry for the people who couldn't keep the snack down.

The losing team...but they put up a good fight!

Our team, we dominated!! That might have been because Jason, Brandon, and Nate were all on our team! Maybe it was a little unfair, but the other team had James and Josh.

Josh devouring a Honey Bun. I think he was trying not to gag.

Now, we're down to the last snack. Brandon vs. Kelly. Bet you can't guess who won! We all headed to the front for the last one to cheer our teammates on!

Egg Game

Next was the egg game. Pretty disgusting! Crack an egg into this piece of tubing, put one person on each end, and blow until someone gets covered in raw egg. It was actually quite entertaining if you were just watching! An all-around great game.

Amy and Delayne started us off. Amy won without much of a fight because Delayne kept pointing her end towards the people watching, so she didn't try very hard!

Then there was the match we were all waiting for...Jason vs. Brandon. Brandon won pretty easily. No big surprise there, and Jason got raw egg in the mouth. Gross.

Another match we were all waiting for...Josh and Nate. Nate won and Josh ate some raw egg. YUM! Notice Jason in the background still holding the water cup from his duel with Brandon.

And then the match-off of the winners, Nate and Brandon. Nate won, and we deemed him Champion of the egg game. Brandon ate some serious egg and was covered with it!
